Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Gourmet Canvas ("we", "us") is a dining journal and social app for rating restaurants, sharing reviews and recipes, and getting recommendations. This policy describes what information the app collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. Contact: gourmetcanvassupport@gmail.com .

2. Information we collect

• Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and name (provided directly, or by Apple or Google if you use Sign in with Apple or Google sign-in), plus the username and profile details you choose. If you use Sign in with Apple's "Hide My Email," we only receive the private relay address Apple generates.
• Content you create. Restaurant ratings, scores, visit notes, reviews, photos and videos, posts and reels, comments, likes and saves, recipes, guides, lists, and direct messages.
• Location. With your permission, the app uses your device's location to show nearby restaurants, distances, and travel times. Places you explicitly save (such as a home location or saved restaurants) are stored with your account. You can use the app without granting location access.
• AI assistant conversations. Messages you send to the in-app assistant ("Ask a local") and its responses are saved to your account so your conversation history is available across sessions.
• Camera, microphone, and photo library. Used only when you choose to capture or attach media to a post, reel, or review. The app accesses the items you select or capture; it does not scan your library.
• Support communications. If you email us, we keep the correspondence to help resolve your issue.

We do not collect advertising identifiers, and we do not use your data to track you across third-party apps or websites.

3. How we use information

• To provide the app: storing and displaying your content, powering search and maps, syncing across sessions.
• To personalize recommendations (for example, suggesting restaurants based on your ratings and saved places). This happens within the app — your data isn't shared with advertisers.
• To generate AI assistant responses (see section 5).
• To maintain safety and reliability: preventing abuse, debugging, and responding to support requests.

4. What other users can see

Gourmet Canvas is partly social. Content you post can be public or followers-only — you choose when posting, and followers must be approved by you. Your profile (username, display name, and public content) is visible to other users. Direct messages are visible only to the participants in the conversation.

5. AI features

When you use the in-app assistant, your message — together with relevant context such as your current search area, filters, and visible restaurant list — is sent through our servers to AI model providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) to generate the response. We send only what's needed for the feature to work, and these requests are processed under the providers' API terms; we do not permit them to use your data for advertising.

6. Service providers

We use a small set of infrastructure providers to run the app. They process data on our behalf to deliver the service:

• Supabase — authentication, database, and media storage (your account and content live here).
• Vercel — web hosting and server functions.
• Mapbox — maps and geocoding (receives map tiles requests and the coordinates/searches needed to render maps).
• Google Places — restaurant search, details, and photos (receives your search queries and search coordinates).
• Anthropic and OpenAI — AI assistant responses and generated recipe images (see section 5).

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with third parties for their own marketing.

7. Data retention and deletion

Your data is retained while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account in the app under Profile → Settings → Account → Delete account. Deletion removes your sign-in record, profile, content (ratings, reviews, posts, reels, comments, messages), and uploaded media from our systems. If you can't access the app, email us from your account's address and we'll delete it for you. Residual copies in encrypted backups are purged on the backup provider's rotation schedule.

8. Security

All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Database access is protected by per-user authorization rules so accounts can only read what they're permitted to see. No method of storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify affected users of any breach as required by law.

9. Children

Gourmet Canvas is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

10. Your rights

You can view and edit your profile and content directly in the app, and delete your account as described above. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, export, or erase your personal data — email us and we'll honor verified requests.

11. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and note the change in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
